Reading the extensive documentation of this beautiful SS 1 Tourer 2.5 Liter it really feels like back in time. Typed and handwritten letters from the previous owners give a good picture of the history. Correspondence with Jaguar, where employees of the Sales Department apparently had plenty of time to answer questions from customers in writing. Yellowed papers, old English registrations, etc. Just going through all this is a party in itself. In the end it’s about the car, that’s for sure. But when a perfect pre-war like this SS Tourer comes with good documentation, that’s a really big bonus.
The SS was registered in the name of Miss C. Eyre by dealer Henlys in London on July 1, 1936, according to the Jaguar Heritage Archive. She chose the color cream with green leather interior, which was later changed during the restoration to maroon with a dark red interior. Seven years ago, the car was extensively overhauled by the SS specialist David Davenport from England. No expense has been spared, and that is still clearly visible today. It is a real joy to discover the overall quality and originality down to the smallest detail.
Now that the car has been part of one of the largest SS and Jaguar collections for some time, it is according to the owner time to say goodbye to some of his cars, including this Tourer. This makes an excellent opportunity for the enthusiast of the illustrious brand to acquire a very good handling, reliable, practical and sublime-looking SS.
