1977 Jaguar XJ C 5.3
A really good XJ Coupe 5.3 V12 is becoming an increasingly hard car to find with only 600 RHD examples produced worldwide and most having suffered from years of neglect due to parts supply and the high cost of work.
This example, presented in its original colour combination of Squadron Blue over Dark Blue leather interior, is a totally matching numbers car as confirmed by its Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust dating letter and we believe it does indeed bear close inspection.
The comprehensive history file provides a detailed history back into the 1980s with the car remaining in single ownership by an incredibly fastidious London lawyer with a keen eye for detail and a fine taste in cars from 1990 until 2015. During this period the car was expertly maintained by the highly respected Nigel Cooper who completed a bare metal body restoration along much detail work. Jaguar specialists K A Walters, The Jag Shop as well as Priory Place Automotive were used for regular servicing.
In 2016 the car was bought by a German marque enthusiast following a detailed inspection. In 2018 the car returned to these shores where it has remained in the same collection ever since where it would sit among some of the most famous XJ Coupes in existence.
More recently in 2021, the car was sent to leading Jaguar specialists M&C Wilkinson, following a full inspection any areas of corrosion found were addressed, the injectors were fully serviced and set-up and the cooling system was overhauled, invoices totalling over £15,000 detail this work. Earlier this year the car was returned to M&C Wilkinson for a further check and all areas requiring attention were addressed.
This is clearly a very good example of one of Jaguar’s most recognisable silhouettes, the car having been well cared for during most of its life and thankfully there is a substantial history file that explains this. The car is complete with an extensive history file, original handbook and tools and on recent road test it performed with all the silky-smooth effortlessness one would expect from such a mighty engine paired with ride quality modern cars could only dream of.
