Aston Martin DB2/4 MKIII - A car for connoisseurs
The Aston Marin DB2/4 MKIII was the car that brought Aston in to the 1960’s with sophistication and the basis of design for the DB4 onwards. Only 551 DB2/4 MKIII were produced, out of those 462 were coupés and 83 were left had drive. This only left 379 DB2/4 MKIII with the Hatchback body in Right Hand Drive. They all featured the same 2.9 litre straight six Lagonda engine. The cars had an upgrade from the previous iteration of engine thanks to a complete redesign from Tadek Marek, one of Aston Martin’s engineers. This included Twin SU carburettors and with the twin exhaust system, it produced 178bhp over the previously 162bhp. The brakes were another upgrade as well from having drum brakes all around to now having disc brakes on the front and upgraded drums on the rear. The upgrades continued with the clutch becoming hydraulic and having the optional overdrive fitted. The car features the bodywork done by Tickford, based down the road from the Aston Martin factory at the time in Newport Pagnel. The interior was upholstered by Connolly interiors, which is one of the world renowned leather specialists that hold the royal warrant for their work with leather.
This specific example of DB2/4 MKIII was supplied new in April 1959 to D.W.Harrison through H.W. Motors in Essex. We believe this car is one of the best examples currently available in the world. Not only is this car full matching numbers, it has had a complete nut and bolt restoration, bringing it back to or if not better, when it left the factory in 1959. The car is finished in the original Penoy red exterior with the off white Connolly leather interior. Prior to the previous owner purchasing the vehicle, the car had a tougher inspection at a classic car specialist in Hamburg, Germany. The previous owner spared no expense by bringing the car up to his ultra high standards, once this additional work had been completed, he instructed Klaus and Laura Kukuk to carry out a complete detailed inspection report on the Aston Martin. Klaus and Laura Kukuk are one of the world leaders in forensic classic car inspection and finding the minute details of the car that most won’t. They rank the cars from 1 to 5 giving it a final score. Only 4 cars have ever been awarded a 1, this car scored in the 1-2 category with a 1.83, one of the driving factors for this score is that the restoration was done using period correct parts, and it also states that the car has been restored to better than concours condition with no expenses spared to bring the car inline with the rest of the extensive collection of the previous owner. This car features the 2.9 straight 6 DBA engine producing 178 bhp as it has the upgraded twin exhaust pipes. The car also has the upgraded from disc brakes as well as the hydraulic clutch upgrade, all from factory. Unusually, this car is both UK and German Reregistered with all taxes paid and the car is VAT qualifying as well.
